The District Detroit’s food scene continues to heat up with the addition of a new restaurant in Beacon Park, DTE’s new public space managed by the Downtown Detroit Partnership.

The newly-opened, 4,000-square-foot eatery, located at 1903 Grand River, offers eclectic New American cuisine, a “towering beer list” and a wide selection of wine.

Lumen has both indoor and outdoor seating, including a sustainable green rooftop dining area with great views of downtown. The entire building, which boasts floor-to-ceiling glass panels that can open on warm-weather days, can seat about 200 patrons.

Norm LePage, who co-owns the restaurant with his wife Bonnie, and their son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Susanne LePage; said the Lumen aims to be “a vibrant new space for the surrounding neighborhood and a gathering place for families enjoying all the events, activities and attractions the city offers.”

“There are so many great things happening right now and we are so glad to be part of the Detroit restaurant scene. We’re really hoping to provide a dining experience unlike anything in the city,” LePage said.

The menu, overseen by Will Hollie and the Chef Gabby Milton of the affiliated eatery Big Rock Chophouse in Birmingham, features “classic entrees with a twist,” such as steak + frites served with béarnaise butter and Pei mussels served with either arrabiata, white wine and chorizo, or green curry. Other selections include wings with everything bagel seasoning, pan-seared salmon with chimichurri, bone-in Michigan pork chop schnitzel, mac and cheese, crab cakes, fresh salads and soups.

The family-owned establishment currently serves dinner and will add lunch and weekend brunch later in 2018.

Lumen is open Tuesday- Thursday from 3-10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 3-11 p.m. and on Sundays from 3-9 p.m. For more information, click here or call 313-626-5005.
