Detroit-based Tooles Contracting Group Sets Concrete Foundation

Damon Tooles sees possibility in the Detroit Events Center—not just for his construction company but for the men and women working on the jobsite every day.

He’s the CEO of Detroit-based Tooles Contracting Group, which is completing work on the arena’s concrete foundation and floor slabs.

“We’ve had the opportunity to be a part of some significant projects like this one here,” said Tooles. “It’s a big resume builder for us as a company and it’s a big resume builder for the trades.”

Tooles Contracting Group was awarded a $28 million contract for concrete work on the new home of the Detroit Red Wings. The company is headquartered in Downtown Detroit and employs about 50 people.

Olympia Development of Michigan set a target of at least 30 percent Detroit-based or -headquartered business participation in constructing the new Detroit Events Center. To date, nearly $200 million in contracts have been awarded to Detroit-based or –headquartered businesses.

All contractors and subcontractors have also agreed to Olympia’s aggressive goal of 51 percent Detroit resident employment in construction of the new arena.
