Health and Safety Day a Success at Detroit Events Center Construction Site

A series of special events emphasizing the importance of health and safety were held recently at the new Detroit Events Center construction site.

“That’s what’s number one on any construction site -- for people to work safely and make it home safely to their families every day,” said Rick Williams, president of Laborers’ Union Local 1191.

Health and Safety Day was organized by the Detroit-based Laborers’ Union Local 1191 and the Laborers’ International Union of North America in cooperation with Olympia Development of Michigan, Barton Malow-Hunt and White, and other worksite contractors to support health and safety on the job site.

Workers received free blood pressure, cholesterol and other health related screening and hot meals were provided to the nearly 200 laborers currently working on the job site.

The men and women who work hard on the Detroit Center Center project everyday are making tremendous progress. The arena will open in September 2017.
