Jam-Packed Day of Festivities for Detroit Tigers Opening Day in The District Detroit

The District Detroit will be bustling with activity when the Detroit Tigers take on the Pittsburgh Pirates for the team’s Opening Day game Thursday, March 29 at Comerica Park.

For the first time ever, Little Caesars Arena and Chevrolet Plaza will host events around Opening Day including interactive games, alumni autograph signings and a live performance by Your Generation in Concert. The big day will also include a tailgate at Beacon Park, a Detroit Pistons game and other post-game events.

Here’s some of what’s planned for Thursday, March 29 in The District Detroit:

The Big Event: Detroit Tigers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates at Comerica Park
The Tigers will host the Pirates at Comerica Park during the team’s season opener, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:10 p.m. Fans should arrive to the ballpark early. Gates will open at 11 a.m.

Jack Daniel’s Season Opening Celebration at Little Caesars Arena
From 8 a.m.-7 p.m., Little Caesars Arena will be hoppin’ as the inaugural Jack Daniel’s Season Opening Celebration will be under way. Dozens of breweries will serve spirits, while select vendors and entertainment will be on deck at the arena street-level Via concourse. A live broadcast of the Tigers game will display on a 900-square foot LED video screen at Chevrolet Plaza. The arena’s four restaurants — Sports and Social, Kid Rock’s Made in Detroit, Mike’s Pizza Bar and District Market will also run game day specials. Your Generation in Concert, an 8-piece multigenerational band covering five decades of pop, rock, dance and R&B hits, will perform at Chevrolet Plaza from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The event is free and open to all ages.

Tigers Opening Day Tailgate and Downtown Street Eats at Beacon Park
Huddle under Beacon Park's 10,000-square-feet heated tent from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and enjoy the Tigers game on the big screen, along with craft beer, wine, mixed drinks, food trucks, lawn games and more. Simply Spanish, known for its fresh and authentic paella and tapas, along with Hunter House Hamburgers, will be on hand to provide tasteful grub from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Watch and cheer on Detroit’s hometown basketball team as they take on the Wizards for the fourth time this season. 7 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena.

Keyshia Cole and Elijah Blake at SOUND BOARD at MotorCity Casino
R&B singer and former reality T.V. star, Keyshia Cole, will return to Detroit on Thursday for an intimate show at SOUND BOARD. Elijah Blake, a fellow R&B crooner who has penned songs for Rihanna and Usher, will open the show at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster. 21+. Hotel/Ticket Packages available here.

Paul Carey Group at Cliff Bell’s
Looking to get away from T.V. screens? Head over to The District Detroit’s premier jazz club after the home opener game ends to hear the Paul Carey Group play jazz and blues. The seasoned Detroit musician has toured with the likes of Thornetta Davis and Sir Mack Rice (“Mustang Sally”). 4 p.m., no cover charge.
