Smoked meat, Michigan-grown produce and an array of house-made sauces reflect just some of the latest items that appear on Hockeytown Café’s fall menu.

Hockeytown, located in the heart of The District Detroit at 2301 Woodward Ave, began revamping its entire menu this summer. The latest edition, created by new Executive Chef Philip Crawford, features selections that boast new items and overhauled favorites.

Hockeytown’s signature French Dip smoked roast beef sandwich, the Hockeytown Club Wrap and BBQ Brisket Flatbread sandwiches feature a delectable tomato bacon jam aioli. Other choices include an array of appetizers for sports fans looking for quick bites during games: Build-Your-Own pizza, loaded tots, fried pickles, spinach artichoke dip, smoked wings, nachos and a Mississippi-style “burnt ends” starter featuring onion straws and crisp cracklins dipped in BBQ sauce.

Hockeytown increased its use of local suppliers and Michigan-based outlets such as Dearborn Sausage, Quality Meats & Culinary Specialties in Detroit and the Polish and European-style Hamtramck bakery, New Palace. Special sauces, now made in house, rely on blends from the Red Goose Spice Company in Sterling Heights. And many of the restaurant meat options, which are never frozen, slowly smoke on the café rooftop for hours before hitting patrons’ plates.

Crawford, a Detroit area-native, has also put together a new selection of popular salads, including the Michigan Autumn Salad packed with Michigan-grown apples, Gorgonzola cheese, candied pecans and tart cherries from Traverse City.

The Hockeytown Chili and Mac and Cheese dishes have also been upgraded. The stew now features a blend of five peppers, two types of beans and a brisket ground chuck blend that packs a superior depth of flavor, while the classic pasta dish uses a new fondue-style sauce featuring sharp white cheddar, Monterey Jack and Aged Swiss cheeses. The standard burger patty at Hockeytown now comes with a signature blend of ground chuck and short rib beef served on a brioche roll, but plant-based and gluten-free options are also available.

When you’re headed out to a game or a concert be sure to stop by early or stay late at yet another one of the incredible restaurants in The District Detroit.
