Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel is only 10 years old, but it already boasts a rich history and esteemed reputation of a decades-old Detroit entertainment venue.

The venue has hosted legends like Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Steven Tyler and Diana Ross since debuting in October 2008 with a two-night opener featuring Anita Baker and Fleetwood Mac frontwoman Stevie Nicks.

Today, Sound Board hosts several dozen concerts each year, along with comedy shows, and other live entertainment including Trombone Shorty, Whoopi Goldberg and REO Speedwagon, all of which led some of the biggest shows of 2018.

The venue in recent years has also become a favorite for professional MMA and boxing, showcasing local talent such as Darryl Cunningham during the reoccurring “Night of Knockouts” events.

“Everybody knows that when they come here they’re going to see a great artist and they’re going to see a great show,” said Bill Borenstein, Vice President of Entertainment at MotorCity Casino Hotel. “The main difference about our venue is the entire team provides amazing levels of customer service to our guests. That is the true key to our success.”

The intimate space, which can hold up to 2,500 guests during general admission shows, prides itself on amazing customer service and maintaining a state-of-the-art acoustics, lighting and A/V equipment, along with a skilled, 24/7 technical support team. “That’s what makes us totally different from other casinos and entertainment venues,” Borenstein said.

Original photos and memorabilia featuring past performers adorn the walls near the venue’s entrance, including the program booklet and wrist band from Aretha Franklin’s recent funeral. Nearby, show attendees have access to Overdrive Bar, the Sweet Ride bakery and the city’s only AAA-rated Four-Diamond restaurant, Iridescence. The 21+ theater is also adjacent to the casino’s Four-Diamond-rated hotel. The casino, which boasts free valet parking, even offers discounted packages that allow patrons to “jam out at Sound Board” and “sleep it off in the hotel.”

Check out the Sound Board website to join the venue’s Roadies Club and to view upcoming shows, VIP Packages and backstage exclusives.
