SPOTLIGHT: Riann English, Detroiter, Cass Tech Student
Riann English wants to be known as the girl who does it all.
English, who just completed a marketing internship at the Detroit Tigers, is involved in multiple activities, in and out of school. A varsity softball player, stylist, fashion designer and president of the senior class of 2019 at Cass Technical High School, English is used to juggling multiple activities. Her future career goals are just as ambitious as she is.
“I want to be a lawyer and a fashion designer,” English said.
English, 17, is one of 24 Cass Tech students who completed a nine-week internship at Ilitch Holdings, Inc. companies this summer. The competitive program gives students professional experience working in various departments throughout Ilitch Companies.
English said her internship has helped her understand what a corporate career is and how to navigate the marketing world.
“I always thought that people with a corporate career had a very pre-determined educational path, but over the course of the internship, I realized that anyone can study anything and still hold a very powerful corporate position.”
Over the course of her internship, English has gained new design skills, helped to prepare marketing and promotional campaigns, organized photos and created graphics of Detroit Tigers players. She said her internship—her first job ever—has been fulfilling and that she would recommend it to future applicants.
“It was a dream to work for them,” English said of the Detroit Tigers marketing team.
