Students Inspiring Students: Teacher Encourages Intern to Follow Dreams

With the help of a teacher at Cass Technical High School, Victoria Singleton took a shot at pursuing her passion for business and marketing as an intern at Olympia Entertainment this summer as part of the Ilitch Companies internship program.

Knowing that she wanted to pursue a career as an entertainment lawyer and having previous experience in the curriculum, Singleton knew that this internship would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“Mrs. [Ranesa] Reese inspired me to do the internship,” said Singleton, “she has opened my eyes to the business atmosphere and helped me to decide which job in this internship was the perfect fit for me.”

Singleton, along with 23 other students from Cass Tech, are currently interning for the Detroit Tigers, Olympia Entertainment, Little Caesars, and other Ilitch Companies throughout the summer as part of The District Detroit’s community connect program.

At Olympia Entertainment, Singleton’s role is to come up with new ways to advertise events premiering at venues throughout The District Detroit such as: Comerica Park, Fox Theatre, Joe Louis Arena and City Theatre.

Singleton appreciates this opportunity not only because she gets a feel for where she wants to be in the future but also because she is serving as an example for others.

“Just by participating in this internship, I know that I am giving back to my community.” said Singleton. “I hope to leave this internship with work ethic.”

Singleton plans to attend college in the fall of 2017 and take what she has learned from this experience to pursue her dream to be an entertainment or corporate attorney.
