The District Detroit Gets Spooky This Halloween
Chilling, sinister and festive events will take place in The District Detroit leading up to and on Halloween this year.
Evil Dead: The Musical, which opened in September at City Theatre, will run six more shows on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. from Oct. 19 through Oct. 28.
Based on 1980s cult-classic horror films by original Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi, the musical chronicles the bloody adventures of some pals who take a weekend trip to a spooky cabin in the woods. This year’s show includes newcomers and returning cast members to help bring the play’s evil spirit to life.
Metro-Detroiters looking for a one-of-a-kind, adult-only adventure should look to the annual carnivalesque Theatre Bizarre experience, which returned to the historic Masonic Temple with two sets of weekend events.
The second and final set of revelry will take place on Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21. The intimate Friday Preview Gala and Masquerade will feature live DJs, dancing, an open bar, and notably, a guided tour showcase. On Saturday, the main event will occur with hundreds of musicians, world-class burlesque, circus sideshow acts and other performers spanning over eight floors, five stages and 19 performance spaces at the Temple.
Both events require costumes that can include masquerade masks and apparel that evoke gothic, steampunk, Venetian Carnival and Aristocratic themes, to name a few.
On Saturday, Oct. 21, one of The District Detroit’s newer eateries, Rusted Crow Detroit, will host its first-ever Detroit Paranormal Expeditions Halloween Party. The night at Rusted Crow will include a costume contest, a live DJ and delicious food and drink specials. Eventgoers will also have an opportunity to win a trip to join Detroit Paranormal Expeditions on an overnight investigation.
The new, innovative Little Caesars Arena will also host its inaugural Halloween-themed event on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Costumes and Cocktails event at the arena’s Chevrolet Plaza will boast a $5,000 cash prize costume contest, a live DJ and plenty of dancing.
The Fillmore Detroit will conjure spooky spirits by hosting Monster's Ball 2017 on Saturday, Oct. 28. Considered one of the largest Halloween parties in the city, the ball will feature stilt walkers, high wire aerialists, acrobats, illusionists, fire and stage performers, fortune tellers and a midnight pizza buffet.
On Halloween, 98.7 AMP Radio’s BOO BASH will be hosted by the commercial hit radio station at The Fillmore Detroit. The music-filled party will feature British house music DJ, Afrojack, DJ and trap music sensation, Flosstradamus, and Dutch producer/remixer, Jonas Blue.
