Valentine’s Day 2019 Brings Discounts, R&B Crooners and Delectable Dinner to The District Detroit
Soulful R&B and jazz concerts, delectable dinners, heart-shaped pizzas and a Red Wings game on are schedule this Valentine’s Day, giving music and sports fans plenty to do in The District Detroit on Thursday, Feb. 14.
Various restaurants and entertainment venues in the bustling sports and entertainment destination are bringing back their annual affairs or introducing new occasions for couples and friends looking for something to do.
Mike's Pizza Bar, Sports & Social Detroit, District Market as always, will be open Thursday night for the Red Wings game.
Here’s a closer look at what’s happening on Valentine’s Day:
Red Wings vs. Senators:
Valentine’s Day with the Dave Vessella Quartet at Cliff Bell’s: Dave Vessella, a trumpet player, vocalist and Detroit Jazz Festival alum, boasts a sound “reminiscent of traditional New Orleans music and west coast jazz a la Chet Baker.” Watch his quartet perform and grab some nibbles at The District Detroit’s only jazz club at 7 p.m. Learn more here.
Toni Braxton and SWV at the Fox Theatre: Two renowned R&B acts will sing the old school jams that made them famous in the 1990s at the historic Fox Theatre. The show starts at 8 p.m. Buy tickets here.
R&B Valentines Rewind: Guy & BBD, Ginuwine, K-CI, 702 at The Masonic Temple: Another set of “old school” R&B/Soul singers will hit the stage just a few blocks away from the Fox Theatre at 7 p.m. Buy tickets here.
The Whispers and Howard Hewett at Sound Board: Romantic crooners The Whispers and former Shalamar front man, Howard Hewett, will hit MotorCity Casino Hotel’s premier concert venue to entertain couples for its annual Valentine’s Day concert. The show starts at 8 p.m. Buy tickets here.
Special Four-Course Dinner at Iridescence at MotorCity Casino Hotel: Iridescence will offer its annual four-course Valentine’s Day dinner to patrons 16 floors above the bustle of the casino gaming floor. Some of the 13 special course options this year include brick-roasted Cornish hen, cauliflower leek soup, wild sea bass and raspberry tiramisu. Learn more here.
Heart-shaped pizza meals at Brass Rail Pizza: This pizzeria, located across from Grand Circus Park, will offer a casual spot for couples and friends looking for a laid-back option on Valentine’s Day. Enjoy the eatery’s special heart-shaped pizza, along with tasty appetizers, until closing time at 11 p.m. Check out the menu here.
Valentine’s Day Dinner Menu at Republic: Enjoy an eclectic, inventive meal inside the castle-like Grand Army Republic building on Valentine’s Day. Republic, one of two eateries at the historic building, will offer special menu options from 4 to 11 p.m. Check out the restaurant’s website or make a reservation here.
In addition to the concerts and special dinners planned, 313 Presents is offering sale prices on tickets for forthcoming shows planned at Little Caesars Arena, the Fox Theatre and other venues in The District Detroit now through Valentine's Day. Using the code "LOVE" patrons can enjoy a discount on up to eight, select tickets until Feb. 14 at 10 p.m., or until supplies last. Deals include $25 tickets and prices that include 20 %, 30 % and $10-off discounts.
