Ilitch Holdings to Partner with Cass Tech High School for Third Year of Student Internships

Ilitch Holdings to provide 24 internships to Cass Tech students with company’s biggest brands through its Community Connect initiative

10-week paid internship program offers students professional experience in a variety of fields, including human resources, sports management, entertainment, marketing and more

DETROIT Now in its third year, the Ilitch Holdings, Inc.’s Community Connect program will invite another group of 24 Cass Tech High School students to fill internship positions within Little Caesars, the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings and other Ilitch-owned companies this summer. Cass Tech students will embark on the 10-week paid internship program to make a tangible impact on Ilitch-owned businesses, learn from staff and mentors, and grow their professional skill set. The program will also afford participating students learning time with key executives within Ilitch organizations.

This comprehensive internship program will fill varying roles across companies, including event management, marketing, public relations, information technology, finance, manufacturing, research and development and human resources. With the September opening of Little Caesars Arena fast approaching, these students will play important roles in the ramp-up to opening events. Students will also attend professional and networking workshops, participate in a video shoot and media training, take in a baseball game at Comerica Park, and work on various projects within and outside of The District Detroit through the summer.

Jayla Conner was an intern in the program’s inaugural year. The now 18-year-old spent the summer of 2015 working in human resources at Little Caesars. After finishing the program and graduating from Cass Tech High School, Jayla went on to college at Bowling Green State University where she now studies psychology in sports.

“My internship at the Ilitch companies really opened up my eyes and helped me build a network,” she said. “I enjoyed everything about it, and it definitely helped me in my major in college.”

To qualify for an internship position, the student must be at least 16 years old, have received a 3.0 GPA during the previous school year, and demonstrate a strong desire to work on key projects in the city of Detroit.
