Holiday Giving in Full Effect in The District Detroit

046 Charities 720 X 480

The Ilitch organization is giving back for the holiday season, right in The District Detroit.

Several companies under or affiliated with Ilitch Holdings, Inc., including Olympia Development of Michigan, Little Caesars and the Detroit Red Wings, have planned events and activities to help the region’s less fortunate population.

The District Detroit will partner in holiday giving with a number of nonprofit organizations in the 50-block community including the Mariners Inn and the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries.

Earlier this month, on Dec. 11, team members from Olympia Development of Michigan and other Ilitch companies volunteered with setup and operations for the annual Holiday Shop at The Children’s Center in Midtown. This four-day event welcomes low-income families in Detroit with nearly 1,700 children to shop for Christmas gifts and day-to-day necessities like socks and underwear.

The Ilitch organization has also joined several companies and organizations throughout the Detroit region for the annual Toys for Tots collection. Employees will continue donating new, unwrapped toys during the Ilitch Charities Charity Partner Program collection at the Fox Office Center, Comerica Park, Champion Foods and Blue Line.

To date, Toys for Tots has distributed more than 469 million toys to impoverished, at-risk youth since its inception in 1995.

Additionally, through the Ilitch Charities Adopt-A-Family Program, employees had the opportunity to nominate their family members to receive additional support this holiday season.

It’s that time of year when the kindness of charity becomes critically important. At Ilitch Charities, the value of giving back defines the holiday season,” said Joshua Sanborn, Manager of Ilitch Charities. “To close out 2017, we’ll offer a variety of charitable programs to Ilitch companies’ employees and their families, impacting our community by providing essential needs, services and holiday cheer.”

Starting in November, Little Caesars employees began collecting in-store donations and donating mittens and gloves for the Mittens for Detroit initiative.

Local Little Caesars stores are also granting holiday wishes to deserving people through 98.7AMP Radio’s Holiday Wish on the Rat and Puff Show initiative.

The Detroit Red Wings are also giving back this holiday season.

On Dec. 6, the team and Meijer held their annual Hometown Holiday Assist where Red Wings players and the Lady Wings went shopping with youth hockey participants from southwestern Detroit’s Clark Park Coalition. The youth were given a unique opportunity to select and donate toys for children who will be admitted at Children’s Hospital of Michigan during the holidays. As a thank you for their kindness, each youth hockey player was surprised with their own shopping spree and Clark Park Coalition received twenty sets of brand new hockey gear.

Two days later, the Red Wings supported The Salvation Army with its annual Red Wings for Red Kettles campaign, signing autographs and giving away more than 500 mini-candy canes to donors courtesy of The District Detroit. The two-hour event raised more than $16,000 for The Salvation Army’s STRIVE youth floor hockey program and other vital community programs.

On Dec. 12, the entire Detroit Red Wings team visited Children’s Hospital of Michigan to personally deliver the toys selected during Hometown Holiday Assist and spread holiday cheer to patients and their families. Each child received a custom Red Wings Bedside Healers plush toy and autographed calendar, as well as special pucks courtesy of The District Detroit.

The District Detroit is proud to support all the efforts of these organizations at this special time of the year.
