Progress continues in The District Detroit as more retail tenants set to open along Woodward Avenue

Retail tenants seek available space near sports and entertainment venues in The District Detroit

DETROIT – Olympia Development of Michigan today announced a new Starbucks location will soon open in a renovated street-level retail space of the Fox Theatre building at Montcalm Street – adding to more than 10 retail and restaurant tenants already announced or operating along Woodward Avenue in The District Detroit.

The 3,000 square-foot storefront will be the Seattle-based, global coffee retailer’s third stand-alone location along the Woodward corridor stretching from downtown to Midtown. Construction is currently under way with an opening later this year.

As we come closer to the opening of Columbia Street, more and more new retailers and restaurants will be opening their doors here as well. Development of The District Detroit and the addition of these new retailers has also brought thousands of construction and permanent jobs for Detroiters.”

Just a block down from the new Starbucks location is Columbia Street, a new shopping and dining destination, with nine new storefronts offering diverse food and beverage options, retail and outdoor dining for fans before and after events.  

Union Joints restaurant, Cuban-inspired Frita Batidos; Michigan’s first Rush Bowls location; Middle Eastern Sahara Restaurant & Grill and University of Michigan apparel retailer, The M Den, have already been announced, and more exciting announcements are on the way. The block-long, 40,000-square-foot shopping and dining destination will enhance the experience for sports fans and concert-goers and provides many new options for downtown residents and the thousands who work downtown every day.

Tin Roof live-music restaurant will take over 47 East Adams, near Comerica Park and Ford Field, creating another exciting new destination in The District Detroit.   

The announcement of a new global retailer locating in The District Detroit, in addition to new restaurants soon opening on Columbia Street, adds several new options for downtown residents and visitors. Four exciting new shopping and dining establishments are already operating along Woodward Avenue at Little Caesars Arena, including: Mike’s Pizza Bar, Sports & Social Detroit, Kid Rock’s Made in Detroit and District Market. The arena also features the Team Store, along Henry Street, open daily to provide official merchandise for Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons fans. 

Thousands of construction and permanent jobs have been created in The District Detroit for Detroiters and Michiganders adding to incredible growth happening all throughout downtown Detroit. Those jobs have come along with construction of Little Caesars Arena, 170,000 square feet of adjacent office space for Google, 313 Presents and the Detroit Red Wings; the Mike Ilitch School of Business at Wayne State University; the Columbia Street destination; Chevrolet plaza; and the new $150 million Little Caesars world headquarters campus expansion.
