The District Detroit Art Walk Series, Presented by Pepsi, Returns This Friday

Join us in The District Detroit on Friday, August 6 for the second event of The Art Walk Series, Presented by Pepsi. From 5-9 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to stroll along Columbia Street and enjoy the work of local artists, courtesy of the N’Namdi Center for Contemporary Art. In addition, artwork by students from Detroit Public Schools Community District Fine and Performing Arts program will be on display.

Admittance is free for guests of all ages, and $5 parking at the Fox Theatre Garage (50 West Montcalm Street) can be reserved in advance at Food and beverage options will be available for purchase from Frita Batidos Detroit. Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey, Founders Brewing Co. and Van Gogh Vodka will serve as supporting sponsors, providing drink specials to attendees 21 years and over.

On August 6, the Art Walk Series will feature nine artists and performers across many disciplines as well as an exhibit courtesy of N’Namdi Center. The exhibit “I Too Am Detroit” will feature works from 15 different artists and will focus on diversity and inclusion within the culture of Detroit and beyond.

Platinum producer and artist DJ Nick Speed will be on hand performing for event attendees, while Hardcore Detroit, a dance collective and cultural aesthetic, will take over Columbia Street with live urban dance.

Artists scheduled to be in attendance at Friday’s event include:

Sheryl Heading Alexander – An art teacher for 30 years, Alexander presents her collection filled with T-shirts, jewelry, fine art, note cards, calligraphy, fabfonts, posters, photography, inspirational art, home décor, gifts and more.

Leah Carroll – Founder of Drawn to Detroit, Carroll offers a collection of free-hand drawings, original and digital prints that explore the city of Detroit and give reverence to landmarks, hot spots, classics and iconic places.

Genevieve Vanzandt – A local ceramic artist and founder of GVZceramics.

Dina Mourad – A professional florist working with artificial florals to create beautiful artificial bouquets.

Precious Angel Jennings – Artist creating honest and reliable comics, illustration and paintings.

Ida Hawkins – A visual artist based in Detroit; she has dedicated her life to living creatively. Hawkins believes that creativity is about living with an open mind, accepting ideas and implementing them.

Catalina Colangelo – A 12-year-old street chalk artist was inspired to draw during the pandemic last summer with a desire to bring smiles to those passing by her creations.

The District Detroit Art Walk Series, Presented by Pepsi, will continue for three more dates, on August 27, September 10 and October 1. The Detroit Tigers will also host games at Comerica Park on Friday, August 27 and Friday, September 10. First pitch of both games is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. Columbia Street is located at Columbia and Woodward Ave., directly across from Comerica Park.
