Detroit Tigers Come Home This Weekend

It’s been one month since the Detroit Tigers’ first home game and as they head into a home stand against the Texas Rangers this weekend we’re looking back at the Opening Day festivities in The District Detroit.

On April 8, fans came out to watch the Tigers beat the New York Yankees and to take part in all the exciting activities around Comerica Park.

Opening Day is a holiday in Detroit and a local rite of spring to converge on The District Detroit at the start of the Tigers' season. And as the late Tigers radio announcer Ernie Harwell annually recited this time of year:

For, lo, the winter is past,

The rain is over and gone;

The flowers appear on the earth;

The time of the singing of birds is come,

And the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.

Let’s Go Tigers!
